건축학 (architecture) 전공자들은 건물의 디자인과 건축 구조물의 기타 다른 요소들을 전
문적으로 다루며, 창조적인 표현능력을 함양하고 기술개발을 위해 디자인 스튜디오에서 작
업을 한다. 그들은 또한 방, 건물, 조경, 도시등 건축 구조물의 역사를 공부하며, 이들을 창
조하기 위해 필요한 전문기술들을 연마하는 훈련을 받는다.
* 이분야에서 성공하기 위한 기본자질: 스케칭과 초안작성을 통한 의사 전달능력, 시각적 공간
적 문제를 해결하는 능력, 시작적인 형태, 분배, 색갈에 대한 민감성

* 전공의 특성:
건축학의 학부 전공은 교양학부 과정과 전문학부 예비 과정의 결합체라 말할 수 있겠다. 비
록 전공 분야에서 강조되는 학과 들이 있기는 하겠지만 일반적으로 건축학은 인간이 생활
하는 문화권 (인문학), 자연세계 (자연과학), 인간관계 (사회학)등 뿐만 아니라 예술과 건축
의 역사적 흐름을 이해할 수 있어야 한다.
이처럼 균형된 기초학문을 습득한 후 그래픽과 영상예술의 숙련을 통해 건축학에 입문하
게 된다. 건축학의 역사적 흐름과 학문적 이론의 학문을 통해 어떻게 해서 사회의 조형물이
나 구조물들이 형성되었는지와 건축의 다양한 기초학문들의 감당해야 할 역할들을 터득하
게 된다.
매학기 마다 학생들은 스튜디오에서 가상 건물이나 구조물을 디자인하는 코스들을 택하게
되는데 처음에는 사람이 일상적으로 생활하는 가구나 방, 기본 생활 도구들을 디자인하고,
중급단계에 들어가서는 박물관, 도서관, 학교 같은 비교적 작은 건물들을 디자인하는 과정
을 배운다. 이런 디자인 과정은 단지 스튜디오 안에서만 끝나는 것이 아니고 학생들은 실
제 실무 현장에도 나아가보게 되고, 사진촬영, 인터뷰, 자료 조사, 그래픽 분석, 모델만드
는 일, 컴퓨터 그래픽 작성등 많은 보조 작업들을 통해 자신의 프로젝트의 강점을 부각시키
며, 단점을 보강하는 일을 하게 된다.

* 건축학 (Architecture) 전공자들과 관련된 기타 경력분야
대학 학부에서는 인문계열 교양학부에 기본을 두고 건축학의 뼈대를 공부한다고 할 수
있다. 이과정을 마치고 대학원 과정을 마치게 되면 건축학 기본에 발판을 두고 설계, 건
설, 부동산, 도시개발, 도시계획, 주택이나 실내 디자인, 산업디자인, 그래픽 예술, 광고,
사진 분야에서 전문인으로 진출하게 된다.
정식 면허를 취득하는 전문 건축사 과정은 대개 5-6년 과정을 이수해야 한다. 대학 4년
과정의 건축학은 전문 건축사 자격증 취득에 중요한 도움이 되기는 하지만 아직은 자격
요건에 들어가지 못한다. 2년 내지 3년 과정의 석사 과정을 이수해야 전문 건축사 시험
자격증 응시 자격이 된다.
